At 2 years of age, Phoenix of Spain won the Group 3 Acomb Stakes and narrowly finished second to Magna Grecia by a nose in the Group 1 Vertem Futurity Trophy. He continued to impress at 3, with a dominant three-length win in the Irish 2000 Guineas, beating Too Darn Hot, Magna Grecia and Skardu. Phoenix of Spain hails from the sireline of Champion first-season sires Lope De Vega and Shamardal. In 2023, he became one of the leading first-crop sires, producing 20 individual winners from 51 runners, including Group 2 Vintage Stakes winner Haatem, trained by Richard Hannon.
The dam, Billie Eria, was a winner at 3 in France and placed 3 times; dam of 5 previous foals; 4 runners; 3 winners. Our filly is a full sister to 92 rated Spanish Blaze who is a winner of 4 races at 2 & 3 years of age and over £72,000 in prize money.
